Born in Sitarganj, situated in the Udhamsingh district of Uttarakhand, Himanshu spent his formative years in Sirauli, a small town in the Bareilly district. His childhood was marked by financial hardships, compelling him to undertake a daily journey of 70 km to attend school. Working alongside his father at a roadside tea stall and offering tuition were additional endeavors he undertook to support his family.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Himanshu successfully graduated from Hindu College, Delhi University, and secured a promising job. However, driven by a passion for public service, he chose to prepare for the UPSC civil services examination. To sustain his family, he took up a role as a research scholar at a government college.
Undeterred by setbacks, Himanshu attempted the UPSC exam three times without any formal coaching. Although he initially qualified for the Civil Services, he secured a position in IRTS. Undeterred, he persevered and achieved the 309th rank, attaining the coveted IPS designation in the 2019 UPSC exam. Continuing his relentless pursuit, he appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his final attempt, realizing his lifelong dream by securing an All India 139 rank and becoming an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer in 2020.
