The former Municipal Committee Chairman of Baramulla passionately appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to reinstate age relaxation for UPSC aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir. This provision, which was available until 2019, has been withdrawn, and the Chairman expressed this concern on behalf of the youth in the region. Touseef Raina, speaking to Rising Kashmir, conveyed the fervent desire of the local youth to serve the nation through civil services.

Raina highlighted a significant issue raised by many aspiring candidates—the removal of the five-year age relaxation previously granted to Jammu and Kashmir candidates in UPSC examinations. While acknowledging the positive changes in 2019, these hopefuls now feel limited in their opportunities due to the absence of this crucial provision.

Addressing the challenges faced by the youth in the J&K Union Territory, Raina advocated for the temporary restoration of age relaxation to alleviate their predicament. He emphasized that such a move would have a positive impact on a large number of young individuals, offering them renewed chances to contribute to the nation-building process.

Raina stressed that reintroducing age relaxation in UPSC examinations for Jammu and Kashmir candidates would be a visionary and inspiring step. He underscored its potential to strategically channel the energy and potential of the region’s youth towards integration, nation-building, and active participation in public life.

Expressing hope that the Home Minister would consider his request, Raina envisioned the reinstatement of age relaxation as a transformative measure. He believed that such a step would not only empower the youth but also symbolize a commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunities for all aspiring civil servants from Jammu and Kashmir.

Raina anticipated a positive response from the Home Minister, keeping in mind the aspirations of numerous young minds eager to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation, especially from the challenging terrains of Jammu and Kashmir.
